Vacation Kitchen
Many times, when we have vacation homes or cabins, they tend to be neglected for much of the year. They sit empty, until we are ready to enjoy them again when the season is right and the kids are out of school. Unfortunately, that also means that when we finally arrive at our vacation spot, one of the first things we have to do is clean. That is no way to start a vacation!
For this gorgeous vacation spot in Vail, the kitchen needed a major overhaul. Years of vacations had piled up in the cupboards, full of expired snacks and half-eaten cookies, mismatched tupperware, and miscellaneous kitchen tools found in all the drawers.
I started this kitchen like I would any other, by sorting, deciding what had to go, what was still good, and what needed a new home. Once the bulk of the sorting had been done, I was able to arrange the cabinets in such a way that EVERYTHING WAS VISIBLE. This is key. When you arrive at place you haven’t bee in a while, being able to see what you have, and what you need, is crucial. This prevents buying too many snacks, duplicate utensils and kitchenware, AND it makes it much easier to start your vacation off on the right foot.
An added bonus? I got to stage and consolidate their dining area, too! I was able to display their beautiful bar and liquor suggestions, plus create a cabinet for games and outdoor entertaining items. Now, the kitchen easily flows into the dining area, and then out onto the deck for a warm summer evening. Light up the barbecue and mix up a cocktail!
This kitchen is bight and beautiful, and ready for my clients to return on their next vacation. They will be able to arrive and start relaxing right away, instead of having to rummage through one-too-many drawers looking for what they cannot find. Let the vacation begin!
